At least two Boston buildings, both in Back Bay, have recently touted their "New York style" in listings—90 Commonwealth Avenue and 276 Marlborough Street. What that means is not exactly clear. As we've speculated, it could mean "doorman + awning;" or "sizable tower with many neighbors, each with strange cooking smells;" or "Seriously? The tub in the kitchen? And they pretend like no one notices when they have people over;" or, in some cases, perhaps "I can't believe I'm asking this much and I will probably get it."
In the case of the most recent New York style entrant, 360 Newbury Street, it clearly refers to the openness of the duplex loft (for one thing it calls itself a "New York-style loft"). And it is open: lots of natural light from windows that run nearly the height of both floors, with views of Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the Charles. The 2-BR, 2-BA, 2,062-square-foot condo just hit the market for $1,995,000. It last traded for $1,530,000 in January 2008, before a bunch of banks in New York ruined everything.
