Curbed Cup 1st Round: (3) North End vs. (14) West End

The Curbed Boston Cup, our (first) annual award to the Hub neighborhood of the year, is kicking off with 16 'hoods vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have two match-ups per day, and all the results and the full tourney bracket will be reviewed on Friday. Voting for each pairing ends in the wee hours the next morning. And, now, more eliminations!

It's the Battle of the Ends this afternoon.

The North End has some of the Hub most beautiful housing (Paul Revere's! The house just a bit younger than Paul Revere's!) and some of its most expensive, too—just last month the fifth priciest condo deal in Boston closed there: $2,020,000 for a condo on Battery Wharf.

The West End, one of Boston's smaller neighborhoods, is slated to host one of the city's biggest new residential developments: The Victor, a 286-unit complex slated for the northern edge of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. We should point out that, for all their pluses, neither neighborhood has a supermarket—at least not yet.
