Leather District, South End Condo Prices; Literate Boston

LEATHER DISTRICT—We told you this morning about how the entire downtown Boston condo market fared in 2011 (well, but not too well). Some neighborhoods did way better than others: The median sales price in the Leather District, for instance, was up 55 percent annually; in the South End, it was up only 1 percent. Snap. [Boston.com]

BOSTON—Quite. We're the fifth most literarate city in the nation, according to Central Connecticut State's new survey. Somehow, we finished just behind Atlanta and had to edge out Pittsburgh: "[The survey] focuses on six key indicators of literacy: newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources."
