$17K Ritz Listing Opens `12's First Debate on Renting vs. Buying

The most expensive rental so far of the new year falls not unexpectedly in the Ritz in Chinatown. The 3-BR, 3.5-BA spread comes with all the bells and whistles of the hotel chain, including 24-hour concierge and a sports club, plus two valet parking spaces and a view clear to the New Hampshire primary. The 2,707-square-foot condo last sold in December 2010 for $3,050,000. We can extrapolate from that that it might be cheaper just to put in an offer rather than pay the $17,000 in rent. But we suppose, if you're in a position to consider $17K in rent, it doesn't really matter.
