In early October, the 4-BR, 4.5-BA triplex at 163 Marlborough Street, which we once described as unfolding like the setting of Henry James novel (or, at the least, an Alan Cumming-introduced Masterpiece Mystery), took itself off the sales market and put itself on the rental market in a big, big way: it asked $21,000 a month. That instantly placed it among Boston's priciest rentals (we mapped the priciest here a couple of weeks ago). Well, turns out that was just for starters. The the 4,586-square-foot spread, which includes two parking spaces and five fireplaces, has chopped its rent by $1,000 to an even $20,000. Lest you shrug, that's a nearly 5 percent drop. That counts for something in a Boston where rents seem to go only one way: up.
