Boston University's got a master plan for its main campus in Fenway/Kenmore, with nine projects slated for the next decade, including a revamp of its law school on Commonwealth and new buildings at Granby Street and behind the Agganis Arena. Also included? A $24 million, 110,000-square-foot athletic field and a 350-space underground parking garage at Babcock and Gardner streets in Allston. Per Matt Rocheleau at Boston.com:
Brighton-based shoe and athletic apparel company New Balance has pledged $3 million to the university to help fund the project and it will be called New Balance Field, the school said. The new open-air sports space will sit atop a new subterranean parking garage. Together, the field and parking complex will replace an existing surface parking lot and an aging BU building on a block next to the school's Nickerson Field, school officials said.
B.U. already has a zoning O.K., and could finish construction by the fall of next year (a new park is planned at the field's western edges). The field would all but double the school's on-campus field space. Go, Terriers! Grrr.
