Mason House Hits the Market for $17.9M, Music Room and All

New, 3 comments

The achingly elegant Mason House at 211 Commonwealth Avenue has hit the market for $17,900,000. This would normally be the point where we would search for adverbs and adjectives to go with "achingly elegant," but we'll let the nouns (and the photos above) do the talking: 11 bedrooms; 9 full bathrooms; 5 half-bathrooms; 14,580 square feet; an au pair suite; eat-in kitchen; an elevator to every floor; and a 5-car garage (O.K., some adjectives in there). The elegance of it all, however, might be best summarized simply by the music room's back story (and the fact that the house has a dedicated "music room"): It was designed in the 1890s by Rotch & Tilden and built in the back of the existing house; and its marble comes from Carrera, the Tuscan city where Michelangelo got his, too. Beat that.
