Stuart Street Getting Its Sky Bridge Next Month

Back Bay is about to get one more sky bridge, this one connecting the new Liberty Mutual headquarters going up at 157 Berkeley Street with one of the company's existing offices at 30 St. James Street. Construction on the second-story sky bridge over Stuart Street is expected to start early next month. The sky bridge, you'll recall, was controversial when plans for it were first put forward—closed campus and all that. Liberty Mutual responded with an employee entrance and a coffee shop in the new building; and that seems to have placated everybody.

“We haven’t heard any complaints about the construction,” John Shope, a resident of Bay Village who served on a neighborhood advisory group that reviewed the project, told The Herald's Greg Turner. “We’re all looking forward to it being done. It should be an attractive addition to the neighborhood.”
