You've heard of New York-style lofts in Boston, right? It appears to be an adjectival phrase in listings meant to connote airiness and a certain chic (what, Boston's not hip enough on its own?). Though it might as well connote creepy neighbors, creaking buildings and odd cooking smells in the hallways at all hours. Well, now there's not only New York-style lofts in our fair Hub, but apparently "Manhattan style" ones, too. Yes, this 3-BR, 4-BA, 2,700-square-foot penthouse at 9 West Broadway, asking $1,799,000, has drilled down into the five boroughs, promising such flourishes as "tasteful wood paneling" and a master bath with "warm woods, natural river rocks & rare fixtures." That positively screeches "Manhattan!" We can only imagine what "Brooklyn style" might mean. Or "Staten Island." We'd like to see somebody use that.
