Busy Days in Downtown's Upper End; More!

We're taking a summer Friday. See you bright and surly Monday!

DOWNTOWN—Anecdotes abound re: the housing market's rebound: "When Jib Bowers of Hammond Residential, listed an 868-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bath home at 127 Pembroke St. in the South End, he had no idea his first open house would resemble an iPhone new release sale. ... There were close to 100 people at the open house, and Bowers had 10 offers by that evening."

BEACON HILL/BACK BAY—Neighborhood residents have Mayor Menino as an ally now in their fight against Massachusetts Eye and Ear's $343M expansion: "'I’m against it right now,' Menino [said]. 'Where’s the money coming from? How are they going to change the configuration of the roadway? They want to do air rights over Charles Street. How do you do that? It’s a historical district.'"
