Eastie Casino to Be One-Sixth Size of the Pru, Other Fun Facts

New, 2 comments

Wowza! Local pols and Vegas power broker Caesars Entertainment unveiled their plans for a $1B, 163-acre casino resort in Eastie about an hour ago, and it's something else. Renderings above and details below:

· 200,000 square feet of space to gamble (or about one-sixth the size of the Pru, Boston's second tallest building)
· 200 table games
· 4,000 to 5,000 slot machines (or, basically, one slot machine for every new apartment being built in Boston in the next few years)
· as many as 10 restaurants
· a 300-room hotel (the largest new hotel built in East Boston in a generation, by our back-of-the-envelop calculations—recall, a 177-room Hilton Garden near Logan made headlines recently for its size)
· connections to the existing racetrack

Now, whether this gets built—and gets built as presented today—is whole other round of hold-'em. The idea has the support of the Menino administration and (after some embarrassing arm-twisting) the City Council, too. Locals in Eastie? Not so much. Stay tuned.
