The $225K, 263-Square-Foot Condo by Tom and Gisele's Place

Our pals at Trulia went hunting for the range of home prices in Boston's different ZIP codes based on asking-prices in 2011. Some of the results were not surprising: 02108 and 02116 (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, the South End, et al) were where the most expensive homes were; and 02126 (Mattapan and Hyde Park) were where the cheapest were. Drill down further, however, and you find quirks in the ranges:

· Those two priciest ZIP codes have the widest ranges in home prices.
· And the cheapest prices in those two codes are for really small homes, like a 263-square-foot condo asking $225K that's only three blocks from the 5,311-square-foot penthouse where Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are asking $10.5M. (The smaller condo, at 425 Beacon Street, cut its asking by $24K in early May. Just sayin'.)
· Finally, in Mattapan and Hyde Park, the median size for homes no more than $500K is 1,665 square feet—more than three times larger than what you could buy for the same amount in the Back Bay or Beacon Hill.

Have a run-through here.
