Bulging Southie Complex Set to Open Soon, Starbucks a Maybe

The mixed-use development at 11 West Broadway in Southie, near the Broadway T stop, was stymied by the Great Recession. Like other developments about the Hub, planned or under way, it languished, only to take rocketing flight recently. The new, six-story building, created atop the site that once housed the Quiet Man Pub, will have 50 rental units (time to update our Rental Heatmap, seriously), plus 26 parking spaces and ground-floor retail.

Here's kicker No. 1: A Starbucks may occupy part of that ground-floor retail space. The coffee behemoth is going before the city's Licensing Board today. Kicker No. 2: The apartments will be one- and two-bedrooms. Not family-friendly, for sure, something Southie residents have complained about (righteously, we think) in the past about other developments; but much needed in Boston nonetheless.
