Cambridge House That 'Frightened' Neighbors Renting for $10K

New, 1 comment

There is a certain symmetry in the fact that 245 Grove Street, the modernist 4-BR, 4.5-BA in the Brookline-Cambridge borderlands, would be the first monster rental listing we noticed this young year. The house, after all, caused quite the murmur when it was completed by developer (and eventual owner) Duncan MacArthur six years ago.

The Globe described it as all "sharp angles and metal protuberances," an "aggressive" creation "that homeowners seem to either love or hate." And hate some did: One neighbor said the house "frightened" her. The living roof seems rather spooky and we're sure the $10,000-a-month asking rent would freak a few out as well. It's latest asking price, by the way, was $2,450,000. Boo.
