Perhaps it's because we told you Tuesday about the spectacularly wine-cellared townhouse at 17 Union Park (with its spectacular January price-chop). Or perhaps it's simply because we're watching whales all week. Either way, we zeroed in on the priciest house now on the market in Brookline.
The 8,943-square-foot Happy Hollow estate off Rockwood Street just west of Jamaica Pond has six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms as well as nearly a full surrounding acre of English-garden plushness. It's asking $6,950,000, and has been on and off the market since February 2011 (it traded for more than one-third that back in April 2004).
More than mere matters of price, Happy Hollow has crazy amenities like a 2,500-bottle wine cellar and tasting room as well as a brick pizza oven. Go ahead and crack that '82 Bordeaux with the meat-lover's supreme! And, once good and tight, have a run 'round those gardens: the grounds include grass from Fenway's infield. On second thought, then, make that beer, not wine.
