The immediate effects of the government shutdown can be seen today. Besides halting certain government funded agencies, top destinations in the area will be closed. Sites such as the Faneuil Hall Visitor Center, the Bunker Hill Memorial, and parts of the Charlestown Navy Yard that houses the USS Constitution and it's museum will close its doors to visitors. "It's going to be a kind of ripple effect," said Sean Hennessey, spokesman for the National Park Service. [Globe]
