The Designer of the New T Map Has Never Been to Boston

Which, to us, makes his selection's selection by the MBTA last week all that much cooler. Per Martine Powers' Q-and-A [second item] with 33-year-old Muscovite Michael Kvrivishvili in The Globe:

I've never been to Boston or the US before. Though I have a few friends living in the US, I never had a chance to visit them. It is my second competition ever, and second transit map. It was challenging to organize some information in quite short amount of time [two weeks], using only web resources. From the first sight, I felt, somehow, that I could do that. Kvrivishvili's winning design is above. Ten that didn't make the cut can be found and lamented here.
