Might 85 Sparks Street Set a Cambridge Sales Record?

It would certainly be the priciest home trade in the People's Republic in the last two years. Eighty-five Sparks Street, a 5,901-square-foot Colonial set on nearly a half-acre of West Cambridge, was listed in November for an astoundingly high tag, the sort of tag that puts it in striking distance of eight figures.

Listed by Campion & Co., the 5-BR house with four full bathrooms and two halves (as well as chef's kitchen, greenhouse, two-car garage and wood-paneled library) wants $7,250,000. It last traded way back in November 1997 for $3,975,000.

But! What makes it so tantalizing possible as a modern Cambridge sales record is not merely its monstrous price—were it to sell for the asking, it would easily trump Cambridge's current contenders for the title—but the fact that its neighbor, 66 Sparks Street, went for ... steady yourself... $1,300,000 over its asking price to close at $5M even. Might 85 Sparks pull the same hat-trick in this frothy robust Hub housing market? Stay tuned.
