The Beacon Hill Condo with Guest Cottage

What's that old adage from Ben Franklin? House guests are like fish—after a few days they start to stink. Well, supposin' you were a Boston apartment-dweller and yet you had your own "guest cottage" to fob them off on?

In this case, the guest cottage is a studio apartment above a two-car garage and reachable through a small garden area at the rear of 20 Chestnut Street in Beacon Hill. All total, the property has four bedrooms and four and half bathrooms, and spreads over more than 3,100 interior square feet, much of it looking very rustic—lots of exposed brick and wood, including ceiling beams. The condo, in a building that dates from 1823, hit the market less than a week ago and wants $4,300,000. There's a new monster in town already. And it's got a cottage.
