And Now a Ritz Penthouse Renting for $30,000 a Month

On Monday, we broke the news of the ginormously enchanting Benjamin Mansion at 74 Beacon Street renting for $40,000 a month. It's very likely the priciest residential rental in Boston's long history. Well, add another five-figure jaw-dropper to the young week: Penthouse 2B in the Ritz-Carlton's North Tower was leased in late February for $30,000 a month, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

We knew the 3-BR, 4.5-BA, 2,791-square-foot spread was on the market for that amount (just like we knew the Benjamin Mansion was on for $40K), but we had little inkling it would actually nab that rent. (Shows what we know.) The rental was listed through Hugh Geiger of First Boston Real Estate; the tenant was represented through Jeffrey Shuman of SelectRE Boston. The condo is still available for sale for $4,250,000 (following a March 7 price-chop of $150,000).
