$14,500,000. That's the closing price of the Ames-Webster Mansion at 306 Dartmouth Street in Back Bay. Recall that the 26,000-square-foot, 50-room, 28-fireplaced palace, used commercially these days, had been on the market for as much as $23,000,000, before an epic $5,000,000 price-chop in late 2011 brought the tag to a mere $18,000,000. That's where it rested amid speculation over whether it would sell as Boston's grandest single-family residence or remain commercial in any trade (we still don't know, despite the closing, though we have an email out to listing brokerage Campion & Company; the buyer was repped by First Boston Realty International). What we do know is that the Ames-Webster did trade, going under agreement in November 2012, and closing on March 15. Stay tuned.
