The 200-year-old townhouse at 8 Walnut Street, #A, was once asking $12,000 a month, making it one of the most expensive rental listings out there.
That was as recently as December 2012. As of March 18, however, the 3,920-square-foot townhouse with four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, as well as a fashionably plush backyard, has a sales price of $4,425,000. That makes it easily one of the 10 most expensive home sales in Boston so far this year. Had it rented for $12,000, it might very well have been among the 10 most expensive home leases of 2013 so far, though would not have been anywhere near the top.
Eight Walnut certainly took its time, too, in selling. First listed back, back, back in April 2007 for a cool $8,000,000, it underwent in the last five-plus years numerous price changes (nine, not including the closing price); listing removals and debuts; and brokerage changes (finally settling on Campion & Company). It was last listed for $4,800,000.
