The Semantics of SoBo; Mass. Home-Sales Record

MASS.-WIDE—Good thing booms never, ever end: "The Bay State's white hot real estate market set another record in May as the number of homes placed under agreement exceeded 9,000 for the first time in any month since tracking the data commenced in 2004, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors." SOUTH BOSTON—So The New York Times called the neighborhood SoBo. It's not like people haven't tried (successfully) to reword other neighborhoods: "The most successful of these re-christenings may be the SoWa, or south of Washington Street, district of the South End. Under a new name, antique dealers and farmers markets moved into once blighted factories. New name, new outlook." [Boston.com]
