Serenity Now! New Apartment Complex for Busy JP Drag

South Huntington Avenue in Jamaica Plain has seen its fair share of development—and development controversy—in recent times. There was the drawn-out battle for Olmsted Place, the nearly 200-unit apartment complex now slated for 161 South Huntington; and there is the potential for a similarly contentious battle at 201 South Huntington, the old Goddard House nursing home, which is up for sale, likely for redevelopment.

The city late last week O.K.'d a new development called Serenity at 105 South Huntington. It will rise out of a 1-acre lot all the way to 13 stories at some points; and will house 195 apartments (time to update our Rental Heatmap again!). Thirty-two of those apartments will be designated as affordable; and the complex will only reach five stories on the Jamaicaway side toward Olmsted Park. Perhaps these concessions will clear a quiet development path.
