Suffolk Downs Casino Deal; Boston Harbor Garage Poll; More!

EAST BOSTON—Hoh boy: A deal is close between the Menino administration and Suffolk Downs to bring a casino-resort there to a vote. "Though details remain to be finalized on paper, the deal will be the state's richest casino host-community agreement to date, with payments to Boston dwarfing the $25 million annually that a rival developer, Wynn Resorts, has agreed to pay to Everett, one of the people said." BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE—The worries are many over the coming construction closure of the Longfellow Bridge: "But at a meeting held at MIT Wednesday night to review the traffic plans and construction at the bridge, representatives from Massachusetts General Hospital, TD Garden and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, asked the design and build team for the project to reconsider their plan not to allow traffic to travel in both directions over the bridge during the project." WATERFRONT—Developer Don Chiofaro has commissioned a poll to gauge support for his replacement of the Boston Harbor Garage. Not everyone's impressed: "When told of the survey at an event in South Boston on Thursday, Mayor Thomas M. Menino rolled his eyes and said, 'I don't make decisions based on polls, I make decisions based on what's good for the city.'" [Biz Journal]
