Belmont Gets Its Big-Time Apartment Complex

It's been more than a year and a half of contentiousness between developer and community, but the town's planning board has green-lighted (green-lit?) the big-for-Belmont Cushing Village project.

The 186,000-square-foot spread proposed by developer Smith Legacy Partners will include 115 mostly market-rate apartments as well as 37,500 square feet of retail (this retail should include at least one Starbucks as well as a health spa and a grocery store and maybe some restaurants, too). More propitious, perhaps, the developer is pitching Cushing Village as walking- and biking-friendly ("Ample bike racks" is a promise of its website). Transit-oriented development, people: It's the wave of our future.
