What's the Bright Idea? One Mount Vernon Hits the Market

The four-story townhouse at 1 Mount Vernon Square dates from 1860, though we're guessing the paint job is of a more recent vintage. The 2,005-square-foot kaleidoscope just hit the sales market.

The townhouse last traded way back in April 1998 for $920,000. Two recessions and at least one real estate boom later, it now wants $2,350,000. For that you get three bedrooms; two a half bathrooms; an eat-in kitchen with island; a patio; parking right outside the front door; central air; and architectural flourishes that go back a ways (to the 19th century, some of them). And the paint. You get the paint, too.
