All Cambridge Edition! Smoking-Ban Change; Serious Crime

CAMBRIDGE—The city's housing authority does not want snitches when it comes to its smoking ban: "[The new proposal also removes the threat of a $100 fine for repeated violations and eliminates language in leases encouraging residents to inform managers of neighbors who violate the ban. The no-smoking rule would go into effect in August instead of Jan. 1 as proposed, unless tenants in a development voted for an earlier date." [Day]

CAMBRIDGE—Meanwhile, the police say serious crime is way down in the People's Republic: "Overall, serious crime in Cambridge has decreased by 11 percent for the first eight months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, according to the Police Department's August BridgeStat report.
