Wowza! 78 Beacon Knocks Off Seven Figures

The scrumptious townhouse at 78 Beacon Street dropped on the market in July 2012 for $10,750,000.

The tag seemed wholly appropriate given the townhouse's vitals: bones in the 1840s; six bedrooms; seven bathrooms (two halves); an au pair suite; a roof deck and a walk-out balcony; 11 fireplaces; three parking spaces; and a gobsmackingly delicious kitchen. Plus, the 7,878-square-foot manse hadn't sold since way back in June 1992, when it traded for $820,000. Times had changed and $10M-plus-plus didn't seem all that absurd.

Well. Seventy-eight Beacon lopped a full $1,000,000 off its tag on Thursday, dropping it to a still respectably jarring $9,750,000. Stay tuned.
