Part of the big, big changes in the northeast corner of the South End is the redevelopment of the seedy I-93 underpass along the neighborhood's border with Southie. Plans have already produced 235 well-lighted parking spaces; and future plans now include parkland, sports facilities, a Harborwalk gateway and public art.
There is also a proposal for a dog park under the overpass. BostInno's Nate Boroyan has the details as well as the snazzy rendering above: "MassDOT wants to transform this dodgy underpass into something 'unlike anything anyone has seen in Boston — maybe anywhere.'" The hoped-for completion date for the whole shebang is next summer. Stay tuned.
