Long-Listed 198 Commonwealth Ave. Trades for Nearly $10M

In one of the 10 biggest Boston home sales of 2014, the 6-BR, 7-BA, 7,500-square-foot mansion at 198 Commonwealth Avenue has sold after an astounding 284 official days on the sales market. The spread, which includes a brick patio out back and an elevator to all five levels, originally dropped in February 2013 for $8,900,000. The listing then disappeared in September of that year, only to reappear the following February with the same listing brokerage (Campion & Co.) but a massively different tag: $9,500,000. That's where it was when it found a buyer a month ago. In the end, 198 Commonwealth closed Friday for a cool $9,250,000. That makes it the sixth priciest Boston home sale this year. Stay tuned.
