Out of a sense of panicked desperation cool confidence, the newly opened Waterside Place has joined the ranks of Boston apartment complexes offering freebies to tenants. Why? Only about 20 of the Seaport tower's 236 units have been leased so far. "We're completely confident that we will fill up the building," Waterside Place's property manager tells The Herald's Paul Restuccia. They've got a plan: to sign around 20 leases a month, thus filling up the complex within a year.
To that ambitious end, Waterside Place is offering a free month of rent to tenants who sign a 13- to 24-month lease. Also, if prospective leasers put down a holding deposit when they visit the complex, they get $1,500 off the second month's rent. Meanwhile, Waterside Place's rents remain just about as ambitious as its new leasing push: Apartments start at $2,775 for 1-BRs and run to $5,690 for the larger 3-BRs (one of which is floor-planned above). We'll see what happens.
Update 1:15 PM Friday: The $1,500 off, according to Waterside Place reps, is only for tenants who put a deposit down during their visit and move in the same month; the offer expires Feb. 28. The free month offer, too, expires at the end of April. Hurry!
