When Unit 12WB at the Mandarin Oriental dropped back in August, it seemed poised to set a sales record for at least Boston condos, if not for Boston homes in general. The 4,922-square-foot, 3-BR, 2-BA spread with "abundant built-in wine storage" was asking a cool $13,500,000, after all, in a market noted for its over-asks. Then the price was chopped a bit.
The November chop seems to have done the trick as the spread soon went to contract. It closed March 8 for $11,950,000, a million and change off the original could-a-been-a-contender asking price. Still, nothing to sneeze at. Or is it? Unit 12WB last traded in June 2011 for $12,200,000. Hmm...
