'Long-Standing Eyesore' in Eastie Getting Hotel Makeover

New, 1 comment

Might it become one of the choicer lodging options near Logan Airport? It might. Plans are afoot from the folks who brought you downtown Boston's XV Beacon boutique to rehab the six-story building at 175 Orleans Street in Eastie into a 150-room hotel.

The $20 million hotel would be called Loftel Boston—as in loft-like guest rooms with 12-foot ceilings (though not to be confused with a Yotel). Developer Paul Roiff tells The Herald's Dana Goodison that said rooms will be "modestly priced" and "competitive with airport hotels, with average nightly rates of $200 or under." With in-room kitchens, moreover, the hotel will target those looking for longer stays.

The new inn also involves plunking a two-story addition atop 175 Orleans, which Roiff described as "a long-standing eyesore." True that: The property in the not-unhot Eastie area of Jeffries Point has been vacant for years.
