A Happy Ending for Jamaica Plain's 3383 Washington Street

It's the coda to one of the happier Boston development stories of recent months: The warmly embraced 3383-3389 Washington Street got the O.K. from the Boston Redevelopment Authority on Thursday evening.

The new four-story building will include 21 apartments as well as a pair of ground-level retail spaces totaling just under 2,400 square feet. There will be a suitable 23 parking spaces on-site. The four affordable units within 3383 Washington were one reason locals embraced it (keep in mind: another nearby development is currently on ice largely because of local opposition). Residents also liked the flat-roof, tower-out-front design put forth by developer Boston Property, the same folks redoing a portion of the ultra-luxury Chanel No. 6 in Back Bay. With progress like this, we'll get to 53K new units someday.
