You don't hear much about gut-renovations in the North End, what with the neighborhood's age and history-related development restrictions. So it was with curious eye that we gazed upon the listing for Unit 1 at 37 Charter Street, a stone's throw from Commercial Street. It is a snug 2-BR, 2-BA of 924 square feet; and its rehab has left it with modern everything: energy-efficient appliances, new finishes, Carrara marble in the bathrooms, cypress wood throughout. There's also central air and heat. The spread dropped in late September for $680,000, a tag that quickly came down to below $640K. It traded last week for $637,500.
