As part of Curbed Boston's first-ever Micro Week, we thought we would try to find the shortest commutes in the region. Then we remembered the above map.
Radio station WNYC created it using Census data and released it late last year. It shows the average commute times in different ZIP codes. As you will quickly note, the Boston region's commutes are generally longer—sometimes a lot longer—than the national average of 25.4 minutes. Also, the deeper shades of purple represent the areas with the longest travel times to work. (Oh, Brighton!) As for shortest commutes, then, get ye self to Southie, the South End, Cambridge or Back Bay.
