BOSTON—Do we detect a little trash-talking from the other side of the continent? "Boston's icy reception to the Games may reveal something deeper about the city that likes to call itself the Hub of the Universe, often without irony. Though few cities rival Boston in sports fanaticism, many Bostonians find insulting the notion that they need validation on the international stage in the same way as Atlanta or Sochi, Russia." [L.A. Times]

HUB-WIDE—It's hardest on families, apparently: "The number of Boston-area homeowners who are spending more than a third of their income on housing — generally considered the threshold for affordability — has jumped to more than 38 percent from 27 percent in 2000 ... Average rents are at an all-time high of $1,857 a month. More than one in four renters devote half their salaries to housing." [Globe]
