Boston's 40-Foot-Long Snow Tunnel Will Never Be Forgotten

This is one for the ages as this winter of our profound discontent melts literally away: a group of people, bikers mostly, dug a 40-foot-long tunnel through a 15-foot mountain of snow in late February to get better access to the Wellington Greenway in beautiful Medford.

Ari Goldberger, a 29-year-old guitar technician and apparently diehard bicyclist, spurred the digging through social media after he gave up on getting help from the MBTA and other embattled powers that be. For two days, too, the tunnel held, with bikers and pedestrians passing coldly and boldly through. Then: It appears to have collapsed, perhaps with a little nasty human help. Gone now, but never forgotten.
