Emerson's Little Building Dorm Getting New Facade, Floor

New, 9 comments

The busy, busy beavers at the Boston Redevelopment Authority O.K.'d Emerson College's redesign and renovation of its Little Building dormitory at 80 Boylston Street in downtown Boston. The green-light is good news for the City of Boston, which is trying to steer more college students into campus housing, thereby freeing up some apartments for the rest of us and hopefully cutting into the business of slumlords who prey on collegians.

The approved plans call for a restoration and replacement of the building's facade as well as interior renovations for floors two through 12. And! 13th floor will be built behind a 14-foot, 4-inch parapet. The project will ultimately add 294 new beds. Architecture firm about town Elkus Manfredi is overseeing the design. It's their rendering above.
