Some suites at the Taj Boston, one of the city's most luxurious hotels, have been asking ungodly monthly sums in rent. Think $45,000 for the Commonwealth Suite. But no recent rentals outside of the Taj have really tickled these sums. Until now. Penthouse 1D at the Mandarin Oriental just hit the market through Otis & Ahearn asking $35,000 a month. That makes it by far the priciest non-Taj rental listing in Boston. For that $35K a tenant would get 2,025 square feet; services from the adjacent hotel of the same brand-name (we should note, too, that this is one of the complex's genuine condos, not a hotel room); two bedrooms; two and a half bathrooms; three curved flat-screen TVs; a wine fridge; storage; and a sweeping private deck that would feel pretty good these days.
