Hotel Full of Micro-Rooms Going Up in Theater District

New, 5 comments

The Boston Redevelopment Authority late last week O.K.'d a so-called Marriott Moxy Hotel for a BRA-owned site at Stuart and Tremont streets in the Theater District. It will be the first such branded hotel in the city and will join a slew of new inns planned or going up in Boston.

Marriott's Moxy brand is designed to appeal to Millennials on the go (is there any other kind?) with tiny rooms—the 346 rooms in the Boston Moxy will be 175 square feet each—and lots of tech-y accoutrements such as common work spaces and WiFi. There will also be rooftop bar to counter that Red Bull/latte buzz. No word yet on the rates for the 23-story Boston Moxy, but its design will certainly stand out (not really hard to do in Boston, admittedly): "Because of the lot's small size, the hotel will cantilever over Stuart Street," according to Universal Hub. This is a familiar look for the boulevard.
