Davis Square's Johnny D's Closing to Make Way for Conversion

New, 6 comments

Here comes more change in Somerville: the 46-year-old Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant and Music Club in Davis Square will close in early 2016 so its owner can convert the 3,900-square-foot space into a multi-story building.

Much of the current club would remain as commercial space, though owner Carla DeLellis, whose parents opened Johnny D's in 1969, isn't saying what exactly would go there (maybe another club?). She is planning to plunk three stories of apartments above that commercial bit, according to the Globe's Sarah Rodman. The name of those apartments will include "Uptown" as a nod to Davis Square's rapidly receding past.
