Owner Sunstone Hotel Investors has finished the first two phases of its $100,000,000, three-prong renovation of the Boston Park Plaza in downtown Boston, one of several projects adding thousands of hotel rooms to the city in the next two years. Among the changes at the nearly 90-year-old inn is a main lobby designed as less of a simple utilitarian pass-through for guests and more of a destination in itself. The space, which Parker-Torres out Sudbury designed, includes a new restaurant called Off the Common (get it?). Plus! There's a lot more meeting and retail space in the hotel. The third phase of the renovation, scheduled to start this November, involves completely revamping all 1,054 rooms and connecting corridors.
