Finding a decent condo in Greater Boston for under $250,000 is dang near impossible. Finding one that is a proper 1-BR is even impossible-er. So imagine our surprise when Unit 11 in the converted Jamaica Plain firehouse at 16-18 Walk Hill Street dropped on the market recently. It's a snug 428 square feet, but a legitimate 1-BR it is (with one bathroom, too, of course). The firehouse dates from 1910 and was converted just 11 years ago, leaving behind some serious, fortress-like cachet. Unit 11 wants just $199,900. Stay tuned.
