Today residents, artists and activists (and artists and activists who are residents) will take over more than 40 parking spaces across Cambridge and set up whimsical mini-parks inside them called parklets.
You recall parklets, right? 'Round about 2012, the tiny spots were due to sweep the Greater Boston region and Boston proper in particular. Heck, some earnest high-schoolers even launched a Kickstarter to build one. Then a few early design duds in poorly sited locations ruined it for everyone and parklets in the area soon descended into novelty, including the one-off that is PARK(ing) Day in Cambridge. Will they ever catch (back) on in any permanent way? San Francisco's doing it and parking there is a nightmare, too. Let us know.
