DOWNTOWN BOSTON—The sale of the Mandarin Oriental's hotel portion has, as expected, set a Boston record. It just wasn't Hilton doing the buying. Instead, brand operator Mandarin Oriental International Limited exercised its option to bid, putting in a $140,000,000 offer that translates into just under $946,000 per room—or the price of 1-BR in the area. ASHMONT—The city is mulling approval of a three-story, 18-unit condo apartment building at 8 Banton Street. Despite its nearness to the Ashmont T stop (Google Maps says it's a five-minute walk), the project is calling for 27 parking spaces. There are apparently calls for fewer spots in favor of more greenspace (h/t WelcometoDot). Stay tuned. [Curbed Boston]
