Boston is undoubtedly one of the three or four most expensive cities in the U.S. to buy a home. Finding a place for under $500,000 can be difficult enough. What about something for less than half of that? It's doable, apparently.
Real estate research site NeighborhoodX analyzed current market-rate condo listings in Boston asking under $200,000. Below is what the site came up with. As most readers can probably readily tell, the listings are clustered in areas beyond Boston's tonier core: Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, and West Roxbury.
Some further perspective: There are no sub-$200,000 condos currently for sale in Somerville or Cambridge, often seen as alternatives once one is priced out of Boston. And! When NeighborhoodX did this analysis earlier this week, these 16 addresses were the only condos in Boston listed for under $200,000. Good luck out there.
