The average sales price for a Jamaica Plain condo increased 156 percent during the past 16 years, according to a recent analysis of deals for market-rate units in both March 2000 and March 2016 by real estate research site NeighborhoodX.
In real dollars-and-cents, that means the average went from $160 a square foot at the turn of the century to $440 today (the figures are not adjusted for inflation). Check out the chart below to see how the high and low sales prices for JP varied from year to year. In some years, the gulf was quite wide. In 2007, the low was $181 a square foot and the high was $598; and, in 2001, $125 and $516.
Overall, the price for condos at the lower end increased 148 percent from 2000 to 2016, to $288 a square foot. The increase was similar at the higher end, too: 143 percent, to $607.
