Back Bay is a blighted area. No, that wasn't a typo or a joke. That discussion is actually happening, and it's been started by Boston Properties, the developer for the the mixed use project at the MBTA Back Bay Station.
How could that even be possible? Well, the Boston Redevelopment Authority has not ruled out he possibility, so the 1.2 million square-foot South End development could potentially be reclassified.
Any reason that classifies the land as being difficult to develop would move it into blighted territory. But, if it does happen, the public can definitely comment on it.
